Mini Peanut Puff (Kok Chai)

I finally made my peanut puffs (Kok Chai). I hope to bake a number of times to perfect it.

You can find the recipe from Neckredrecipes.blogspot.

You have to roll the dough (skin) very thin so that the puff will be very crunchy after deep frying.

When I was deep frying the kok chai, it reminded me of my late mom. Mom used to light a joss stick and offerred to the Kitchen God for blessing so that there will be safety when she is using the stove. So when I was young, I would always looked at the Kitchen God with full of admiration when everything is well done and safe and the kok chai is so yummy...hahaha.

It is believed that on the twenty third day of the twelfth lunar month, the Kitchen God returns to Heaven to report to the emperor of the heaven whether the family had been good or naughty for the entire year . The emperor of the heavens will either rewards or punishes the family based on ktichen god's yearly report.

So family would always offered sweet stuff on this day so that the kitchen god would report only sweet stuff to the emperor.

BTW the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month for this year falls on this Saturday (6th February 2010).
